Taught By Pete Hanson and Christine Cronin
The goal of the Physical Education Department at St. Aloysius Gonzaga Catholic School flows from the school mission: for all students to "graduate as leaders in action modeled on Christ". In class, students should treat one another with respect, kindness, compassion and care through collaboration and participation in physical activity, games and sports. A secondary goal is for students to develop a lifetime passion and the habit of participation in physical activity for life while exploring the many forms of activities that can sustain fitness.
In grades 1-4, grading is based on respect and positive participation in class. Grading is assessed by Mr. Hanson. In grades 5-8, grading is based on a student’s self assessment (and the teacher’s collaboration with that self assessment) in respect, kindness, compassion, effort, encouragement of others and doing one’s best in physical activity and exercise regardless of ability. Grading is also based on physical activity homework (at least 30 minutes or more of physical activity 5 days a week of any type outside of school warrants full credit).
