Junior High Electives

  • Digital Journalism

    This elective will challenge students to develop their creativity, writing skills, multimedia skills and their ability to collaborate with others. Students will learn how to create, report, produce, publish and promote multimedia stories in an ethical, fair, and impactful way.

  • Engineering

    In the spirit of St. Ignatius, students are going to become masters of thinking outside the box and persevering. Students will be inventing and working through the invention process to see how we can make our world a better place. Students will also learn about strategy through games and engaging in building challenges.

  • Art

    Students will focus on mastering art elements and principles. Learn visual art skills and spend time creating works of art using clay, paint, pencil, paper, and more. Investigate different artists and practice various art techniques, all while developing their own creative artistic abilities.

  • Leadership

    This class has various opportunities to be servant leaders in our school and community. Students will need to be models of good behavior in all settings, be willing to engage in community service and public speaking, show initiative in their actions, and demonstrate a strong work ethic. This elective also requires a written essay to be considered for this elective.

  • Study Skills

    This elective is designed for students to learn study skills which can be applied across various subject areas. Students enrolled in this class will work on reinforcement of study skills such as time management, organization, note taking, test-taking strategies, etc. Placement into this course will close when it reaches its capacity. A variety of factors will be taken into consideration when placing students into study skills such as: academic need, class schedules, and individual learning styles.

  • Music

    Learners in the elective music class will develop their ability to write, sing, record, market, or manage music. Likewise, they shall come to appreciate their level of talent and the meaning of music in the liturgy of the Mass. Ideally, learners should be able to understand music theory that increases their perceptions on different genres, and investigate the attributes of general musicianship such as the essence of personality as part of the image.

  • PE

    The primary goal of the Physical Education program at St. Aloysius Gonzaga Catholic School is to give glory and praise to God by incorporating physical activity into the daily lives of our students. In class, students are expected to treat one another with respect, kindness, compassion and care through collaboration and participation in physical activities, games, and sports. Our ultimate goal is for students to develop a lifetime passion for and habit of participation in physical activities that can sustain fitness while further developing their relationship with God as they learn to navigate the interwoven health of body, mind, and spirit.

  • Percussion

    The percussion class focuses on the oldest instruments including the drums, the xylophone, etc. Learners will improve their dexterity and concentration through the combination of rhythm with the movements of the limbs, and through practicing retention capability in the playing of songs, improve on memory. Learners shall come to appreciate the language of music through the analysis of emotions and unique language therein. They will understand that percussion stimulates the creative aspect of the mind, which helps see the authentic instances of topics or phenomena and therefore build confidence through sharing and playing with others.
