Week of 9/14-9/18

Hello Families!

Thank you for an incredible start to the year. Your 6th grader built community with classmates, learned some new protocols and procedures, and explored the online tools we will be using this year. I have a lot of information to share with you all below, so I’ve broken the email into 3 parts

I. Breakfast and Lunch information (response needed)

II. Distance Learning information

III. MAP Testing

IV. Book Orders and Uniform Exchange

I. Breakfast and lunch will be available at no cost to all students from 9/14-12/18 thanks to USDA. Lunch count will still be taken in class at the beginning of the day, but I will need to know breakfast in advance. Please fill out the Google Form in your email with your child’s name and your breakfast preference. If this program is renewed for the next calendar year, I will send out an informational email with another Google Form. Please contact me with any questions.

II. We begin distance learning next week! This Monday at 8:30AM I will be dropping a schedule of assignments and activities for the week of 9/14-9/18. These assignments will center around getting to know your child’s learning preferences, building community, and learning how to use our new textbooks and online tools. The assignments will have varying due dates.

On Friday 9/18 at 5:00PM, and every Friday following, I will be dropping a new set of assignments and activities for the following week. I know this is new for all of us and a lot of changing responsibility for your child. Please know that I am flexible and here to help if your child misses a due date or needs more time. The best way to support your child in distance learning is to be in partnership with me by communicating or assisting your child in communicating the need for an extension.

A signed “Expectations for Teachers, Students, and Parents” sheet (attached in your email) is due on Monday, 9/14 for Cohort C and Friday, 9/18 for Cohort D.

If you have any questions, the best way to reach me is through email. Please keep in mind that on Mondays and Fridays there will be longer turn around times on emails while I teach.

III. We begin MAP testing next week. This will give me valuable data to differentiate instruction to best fit your child’s needs. As best you can, please make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep and brings a snack to school.

IV. Book orders went home this week! If you are interested in ordering from Scholastic, please use the class code TT427. Book orders for September are due and will be formally ordered on 9/25.

The Uniform Exchange will be open on Monday and Tuesday Sept. 14-15th from 2:30-3:30pm. Please wear a mask and enter at the door on Dakota Street. There will be an adult to assist you once you arrive.

I look forward to seeing your children next week and learning more about them! If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.  Have a wonderful weekend!!
