All week during Catholic Schools Week, we will be collecting new or gently used mugs for Catholic Charities.  Please look in your homes for any you might want to get rid of.  Thank you!

Homework:

*Reading Log due Monday

*Math Log due Monday

*Math Sheet due Monday

*Cursive Sheet due Monday

*Spelling Test (None due to Catholic Schools Week)

Curricular Information:

Math:  We continued to compare fractions during Number Corner.  We also continued to work on elapsed time.  During our main lessons, we worked on expanded form, rounding to the nearest 10 & 100, and story problems.  We have been able to pull small guided groups for instruction which has been great!

Religion:  We continued our study of the Trinity by learning about the symbols of the Holy Spirit.  We combined our Language Arts targets with religion by reading an article and highlighting the key details in each paragraph.  We also looked at the paragraphs to see why the writer began new paragraphs based on a change in the topic.  We learned that there are several symbols of the Holy Spirit!  Ask your child to share some of those symbols with you.

Social Studies:  We attended the Generation Alive kick-off assembly.  At the assembly we learned about hunger in our community and how we can help.  As a school, we are going to work together to create meals for those in need in our community.

Science:  We learned the body parts of our mealworms and how they are insects.  They have a head, thorax, abdomen, 6 legs, and 2 antennae.

Language Arts:  During reading, we continued reading in small guided groups.  I also pulled students individually to assess their reading.  This week we continued our non-fiction features lesson by learning how diagrams help us when reading a text.  During writing, we continued writing our opinion essays.  We also continued learning cursive.  During grammar, we continued learning about verb tense.
