Sept. 9-13

Happy Monday! Welcome to the second week of 2nd grade! We had a wonderful first week learning about our classmates, our school, and our St. Al’s community. I know this is going to be a great school year!

This week in the Red Folders, you will find the first homework “packet”. The math “home connections” is what typical math homework will look like in second grade. I encourage you to read the directions for your child especially on the first assignment. The second part of the homework “packet” this week is the family homework. You will find a paper bag stapled to the instructions. This requires creativity and working together as a family! Please have your child bring in their completed bag by Friday, September 13th. This is going to be a fun activity to help us get to know our classmates better!

On Friday, we completed our first Friday Letters assignment! This is an interactive assignment between parents and child. Students will write a letter to their parent about what we did at school that week. The parents will respond to their letter on the back. We will write our letters on Friday and they will be sent home in the Red Folders on Monday. Please send in your response with the Red Folder on Friday! More information is in the Red Folder.

A few important dates/reminders:

  • Scholastic book orders are in the Red Folder. You can order books online using our class code V77V9. Book orders are due Friday, September 20th.
  • Eastern Washington University will be coming to our school beginning Friday to begin their literacy screenings. A permission slip and more information is in the Red Folder. Please return it during the week if you would like your child to participate. The screening is optional.
  • Back to School Night is Thursday, September 12th beginning at 6:00 PM. We will have a different format for back to school night this year! Parents will meet in the Garco Gym at 6:00 PM. There will be an assortment of break out sessions you may choose to attend. I will send home our classroom information packet/information in the Red Folder. Families who attend will receive one hour of volunteer hours. This is a great way to set your child up for success this year. I have included the traditional back to school information in the Red Folder this week. Please return the survey by next Friday (9/20).
  • If you wish to attend field trips this year you need to be VIRTUS certified. There will be a training on Thursday, September 12th at 4:45 PM and on Saturday, September 21st at 10:00 AM.
  • September 9th newsletter

I hope you all have an amazing week!

Blessings,

Ms. King
