I feel truly blessed to be at St. Aloysius Catholic School teaching your children!  We are off to a great start in 4th grade!

*PE is on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday.  Please have your child wear tennis shoes on those days.

Regular homework will begin on September 16th.

Pre-Assessments have been sent home. Please see the attached sheet for information on this and the process.

*It is imperative that your child have their multiplication and division facts 0-10 mastered if they do not already. Nearly everything that we will be learning in math this year is built on those multiplication and division facts. We will be practicing the math facts in class; however, your child needs to practice at home as well. Please let me know if you feel like you need additional resources for your child to practice at home.

Please join us for Back to School Night on Thursday at 6. You can receive 1 volunteer hour for this. There is a new format for Back to School Night. It will be in sessions that you may choose based on interest and the needs of your child. Categories include: Bridges (our math curriculum K-4), Daily 5, Transitions for 5th and 6th, and many more. Please join us on Thursday!

The website is up and running! I will be updating the website once a week with the newsletter and photos from the week.

Our first Scholastic book order went home today. It is due on Friday, September 27th (checks only, no cash please). To make it easy for you, you can pay by credit card online at Scholastic.com with our class code TT3F3

Birthdays: You may send a treat for your child’s birthday to share with the class.  We have 31 students this year.  Please be aware of gluten, nut, and dairy allergies.  Please keep it simple!  Our school guidelines state that we must “keep the treats simple” and “be mindful of being equitable.”  We don’t want any hurt feelings if one student gives out larger scale treats than another student.  Some ideas of simple treats include:  muffins, cookies, cupcakes, Rice Krispy treats, cracker dippers, and fruit.  Please do not send in any ice cream, popsicles, or anything that needs to be sliced and prepared.  You may send it in the morning of your child’s birthday (or a date near the birthday if it falls on a weekend).  Please give me a heads up if you are sending in treats.  Thank you in advance for respecting this request.

I am very good at checking my email.  Please either email me or call me if you have a question or need to make an appointment.  I will get back to you within 24 hours unless it is a weekend or a vacation time.

If there are any questions or concerns, please email me at jhirst@dioceseofspokane.org. Email is the best way to contact me!
