Class News

November 26, 2018

*I hope you enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving with your families.

*For the Christmas program, our class will be performing a little play.  Mr. Barfield gave a part to each child who wanted one.  For your scheduling purposes, I wanted to let you know that we will be having a few all school rehearsals.  We will practice in the mornings of December 10th, 14th, 17th, and 18th.  Please try not to schedule any doctor appointments on those dates.  Also, I wanted to give you a heads up that on the date of our program, parking might be limited due to the GU game that evening.  If you get a chance to thank Mr. Barfield and Ms. King for their work on this program, please do so.  They have spent countless hours writing scripts, choosing songs, scheduling practices, and doing much more to prepare for this performance.  We are so lucky to have them as a part of our school community!

*Please send PE shoes for Monday, Tuesday, and Friday each week.  If you wish to leave a pair in the classroom, that is fine too.  I have a bin to store them in.  The children must have tennis shoes in order to participate.  I have them change into clean shoes after recess and before PE.  This just helps Mr. Hanson to keep the gym clean.

*Please prayerfully consider donating to our school’s Annual Fund.  It makes an impact for your children.  The first class to have everyone donate will win a free dress pass and pizza/movie party.  One donation per family will go towards all of your children.  Thank you in advance!

*IF you are planning on going on field trips this year, you must be Virtus trained.  Watch the volunteer section of the Monday News to see the scheduled Virtus trainings.  Please contact Aleisha Webb awebb@dioceseofspokane.org for more information.

Curricular Information:

Math:  During Math, we learned the vocabulary terms, product and factor.  We enjoyed building multiples of 10 with cubes and seeing the relationships and patterns.  We also enjoyed playing an array game.  We solved multiplication and division story problems as well.

Science:  During Science, we began an experiment exploring things that might affect how fast water evaporates.  We thought maybe surface are and location of our water cups might affect evaporation.  We also looked at our cup that has had a wet paper towel for a week.  It has a lid on it, so we discovered that the paper towel was still wet and the cup had condensation.  It was exciting to discover that the paper towel was still wet!

Religion:  We continued learning about the parts of Mass and added to our book.  We finished with our Mass books and published them.  It is my hope that we can share these with younger students and teach them about Mass.  We also continued learning about different Saints.  We have had some awesome conversations around the lives of Saints.  There is so much to learn from them!

Social Studies:  We enjoyed reading about the pilgrims and their first Thanksgiving.  We wrote double-sided diaries to engage our learning.
