*I enjoyed seeing everyone at Back to School Night. Thank you so much for coming and for sharing your sweet children with me!
*If you are not receiving my emails, please let me know. They have also been known to go to junk folders too.
*I have been asked by the Kids Newspaper if they can interview 9 of my students about the topic of money. This would most likely happen at the end of September and each child interviewed will have a comment published. She will take a photo and their first name will be published. Please let me know by responding to this email if you do not want your child interviewed. If we have more than 9 kids interested in being interviewed, I will draw names out of a hat to be fair.
*Our first Scholastic book order went home today! It is due on Friday, September 28th (checks only, no cash please). You can pay by credit card on-line at Scholastic.com with our class code QMCQ3.

Math: We reviewed addition strategies from last year by coloring our addition tables. We also wrote our strategies in our math journals. We continued to learn the beginning strategies for multiplication, and we took a baseline math assessment too.
Reading: We explored some reasons why we choose the books we read. Mrs. Manfred continued assessing students individually on their reading.
Social Studies: We continued building community with one another. We enjoyed learning about the importance of our names. Thank you for taking the time to do that with your child. We also read a wonderful book called “The Name Jar” that reminded us to treat each other’s names with respect and that our names are very important to us. We also loved making fruit salad on Friday! Thank you for sending in some fruit. This activity illustrated how important it is that we are good classmates to each other. In addition to these activities, we read “The Important Book” and created our own class “Important” book highlighting how important each of us are.
Religion: We continued exploring the Old Testament this week with learning about the Book of Ruth. We learned that she is a descendent of Jesus and will learn more about her when we study the Jesse Tree during Advent.
Writing: We began to discuss topic ideas for true stories. We are taking the time at the beginning of this year to write our own personal narratives. We are keeping these narratives in our writing folders at school for now.
Science: We began our unit on water and climate by creating an inquiry chart. We also read a book that Mrs. Manfred created on where water came from.
