I feel truly blessed to be at St. Aloysius Catholic School teaching your children!  We are off to a great start in 3rd grade!  I look forward to seeing you all at Back to School Night on Wednesday the 12th at 6:00 p.m.

*PE is on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday.  Please have your child wear tennis shoes on those days.

Upcoming Events:

  • Wednesday, September 12th, 6:00 p.m. Back to School Night (parents only)
  • Thursday, September 27th, 10:15, Mass of the Holy Spirit at St. Al’s church
  • Friday, September 28th, Teacher In-service, No School

Curricular Information:

Math:  We created glyphs and bar graphs this week.  We also began learning some multiplication strategies during Number Corner and played a fun multiplication game together.

Reading:  We learned all about how our classroom library works.  We also talked about independent and partner reading.  I was able to begin assessing students individually on their reading as well!

Social Studies:  We did a lot of activities that promote community building within our classroom.  We talked about what makes a good classmate and how we can include others, especially at recess.  We also created a class promise to each other and put our self portraits around it.  We played the “Human Learning Continuum” as well.  In this game, we learned that all of us are experts at something and beginners at other things.

Religion:  We began looking at the Old Testament.  We learned that God calls us by name and how important our name is.  We really understood this concept when we read the book, “Chrysanthemum” together.  When you get a chance, please do the “name homework” with your child.  We will be sharing these in class.

Writing:  We took a baseline writing sample.  We also wrote “I Am” poems.  Look for these in the hall. J
