After a fun and festive Catholic Schools Week we are toning things down and getting ready for Lent! Students have earned a free dress pass that they will be using tomorrow, 2/6/18.
Grammar: Students are working on Chapter 19 in their spelling books. A list of words is available in the documents section on this page. Students will have in class practice, but are encouraged to practice at home as well. The results of their pretest will go home tomorrow. Students have a spelling test on Friday and any missed spelling tests can be made up Friday as well.
Religion: The 6th grade is planning the 5th/6th grade mass this week on Thursday. We also have an open book religion quiz on Friday.
Humanities: Students will begin reading Watsons Go To Birmingham and Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry this week. We will briefly discuss the Civil Rights Movement as well as notable African American leaders. Please be aware that these two novels bring up issues of racial and economic inequality that we will be discussing as well. Please talk with your children about the importance of listening to others’ points of view and assuming the best in every situation.
As we come to the middle of the school year, many students need additional reminders to treat classroom materials with respect. I have had a couple instances of light vandalism (torn and inscribed bulletin boards) as well as students treating markers/crayons/pencils with disrespect. Please partner with me to help students realize the impact their actions have on themselves and their community.
Thank you for sharing your wonderful children with me! Everyday I get to come into the most fulfilling job. I am lucky and blessed to work with such a talented and caring community!
