Before getting into class news and events, I want to express my thanks to all of you who have contributed to the 6th Grade Auction Project! And I especially want to thank Amme Paluch for organizing and inspiring such a cool and unique idea! If you have not supplied Amme with a picture taken by your child of his or her favorite place in Spokane, tomorrow, January 11, is the deadline to sent it in.
I hope this week is treating you well so far! As 6th grade moves into the rhythm of the New Year, Humanities students will be working diligently on project based learning.
Grammar: Students are working on commonly confused words (think accept vs except) with a spelling test on 1/12. Students will also be exploring sentence structure and run-on sentences.
Religion: Students are exploring what it means to make time for God in their everyday lives. They have made a spiritual goal for the New Year and are reflecting on plans to ensure their goals are met. We have an All School Mass on Thursday, January 11 at 10:15AM. The mass will be held at St. Aloysius.
Humanities: Students are exploring the Greek Gods and Goddesses for a poster project. Students chose their Greek God or Goddess last Friday and have been researching in class as well as at home. As students continue their research, they may come across sensitive material in the myths surrounding Greek Gods and Goddesses. The project is due on 1/17 and a description of the requirements is available in the documents section below.
Students are concurrently working on a Novel Study (due tentatively 2/1) using a novel of their choice. On Monday, students mapped their extra-curricular obligations, family obligations, and other activities on a calendar. They used this information to plan their reading schedules. Starting Friday, these schedules will be checked daily to ensure students are on track and have support as they modify schedules as needed. A description of the requirements is available in the documents section below.
The parking lot has been very slick lately, please use extra caution when entering and exiting the parking lot as well as loading and unloading.
The Kids Under Construction Denim and Diamonds auction is at 5:30PM on February 2nd! It will be held in the new building, and promises to be a spectacularly fun event! To accommodate the time frame, ELC will close early, at 5:00PM. I hope to see you all there!
I am so thankful and blessed to be part of this community, and thank you for sharing your kids with me! Have a wonderful rest of your week, leading into a 3 day weekend!
