Dear Second Graders and Parents,

Welcome to second grade!  It is exciting to meet all our new classmates!  We can share stories about our summer adventures and enjoy getting used to the new classroom.

This week we will ease into our new year with fun activities to reacquaint ourselves and become familiar with our classroom routines and resources.  I will be listening to the students read, helping them with writing projects, and math activities.  They will have p.e., music, art, library, and of course recess!

We will begin our formal homework assignments next week.  Until then please continue your usual reading for enjoyment, and of course, practice addition and subtraction facts everyday so you can be quick for all the fun math games and activities ahead.

Please be sure your child brings a backpack each day.  The backpack will be necessary for the Red Homework Folder and other communication to and from school and home.  Also, please make sure your child knows where to go after school at 3:00.

We will have a special event this Friday.  All the students will be walking to Gonzaga University McCarthy Center at about 10:20 for the installation of our new Bishop.  We will return about 1:30.

Attached to this letter is some general information on second grade.  We will have an opportunity to visit at “back to school night” on Thursday, September 9th.

This is my 18th year of teaching and my third year at St. Al’s.  I was a speech and language pathologist for ten years for Easter Seals in Montana. I was a full time mom with my three children Joshua, Rachel, and Timothy.  All three are proud graduates of St. Al’s School and Gonzaga Prep.  Josh and Rachel graduated from Gonzaga University and Tim is a Senior at the University of Montana.  My husband Don has worked for 26 years for St. Al’s Church as the Parish Administrator.  I feel very blessed to be a part of the St. Al’s community.  I am delighted to be your child’s teacher.  Your children are a tremendous blessing to me!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Diane Weber
