8th Grade Homeroom: Mrs. Melville September News: Thank you parents for giving me a terrific 8th grade class! I thoroughly enjoyed being with them this first week. There will be an 8th grade parent meeting at 5:30 on Sept 9th, an hour before Back to School Night begins at 6:30. The following day, Friday,Sept. 10 the 8th graders will lead the school in the Mass of the Holy Spirit at St. Aloysius Church at 10:15am. The first diocesan dance will be held in our gym on Friday, Sept.24. All parents are encouraged to sign up to help check in students, chaperone, run concessions or help clean up. The dance runs from 6-8pm and is a terrific fundraiser for the class. Sign-up will take place at the Sept. 9th parent meeting. Please check this site weekly for class news and for religion homework assignments. I also post the advanced algebra class assignments for each week, as well as my pre-algebra class for the 7th graders. Please remember to check teacherease.com frequently to keep updated on your child's academic progress. Religion: Tuesday, Sept 7--Thursday, Sept 9 We will be learning about what makes the Catholic faith unique, including understanding the four marks of the church (one,holy, catholic and apostolic), transubstantiation of the Eucharist, the paschal mystery and the catechism on the concept of purgatory. We will read and discuss handouts, check for comprehension of the concepts presented and then students will select individual projects to go a little deeper into an area of the choosing. Friday, Sept 10 : 8th graders are preparing the Mass of the Holy Spirit today at 10:15 at the church.
