Monday, September 11, 2017 Dear Second Grade Parents, This has been a wonderful and very busy week! I hope to see all of you at our Open House tonight at 6:30. If you are unable to attend the Open House I will send a packet with all the important information home with your child. Please contact me at the school (489-7825) or e-mail me diweber@dioceseofspokane.org if you have any questions or concerns. My first homework assignment is the “family homework”. The directions are attached to the paper bag. This is due Friday, September 15. The plastic red folder will be the daily folder which will be sent home every day and returned to class the next day. I will keep the folder on Fridays to prepare them for the next week of homework. We will also formally start our spelling homework this week. Spelling homework will be due on Fridays. The students are to write each spelling word 3 times each in pencil very neatly following the guidelines. This is to help improve their fine motor skills. Also, use each word in a sentence on the paper provided. We will have spelling tests on Fridays starting on September 15. I have also sent home a reading log to keep track of reading at home which is also strongly encouraged and necessary for success in Second Grade. Please sign the log before handing it in on Fridays. Other homework will include math “home connection” activities, writing assignments and projects which will be assigned throughout the year. Remember to sign up for the First Eucharist/Confirmation classes if you would like to participate. You will receive information on these classes at the Open House. We have a stuffed furry class pet named “Alfred the Alligator.” Every Monday a student will take Alfred home with him/her and spend the week with them until the following Monday. Alfred has a spiral notebook and plastic travel bag. The student who takes Alfred home will write about some of the things he/she did with Alfred. For example, “He went to my soccer practice. We had lunch with Grandma. He watched TV with me and ate a snack.” You can also draw pictures or take photos of you and Alfred. Use your imagination and have fun! Make sure you return him to school on Monday so the next lucky student can have him. Please sign the EWU consent form and return in the red folder as soon as possible. I am delighted to be your child’s teacher. They are a blessing! Sincerely, Mrs. Diane Weber
