I can’t believe what a chilly start to 2017 we have had so far this year! Thank you for sending your children with warm clothing. Our hope is that we can be outside for recess most of this week. Thank you for your diligence in the parking lot and driving slowly due to ice and snow. Please know we are doing our best to de-ice the parking lot, but it is difficult in sub zero temperatures. We are expected to get more snow this week so please check the Krem 2 news station, our website, and we will notify you with our Iris alert system if there is a school closure. Please let Kelli Kelly know if you did not receive the Iris alert notification of snow closure on Monday.
We are back in full swing in the classrooms, and the students are working hard on their academics. This week we will begin MAP testing in grades 3, 4 & 7. At the end of this month, we will celebrate National Catholic Schools Week! We will kick off CSW with our Parishioner Appreciation Mass and breakfast on Sunday, January 29, at Saint Aloysius Church. Our culminating events on Friday, February 3, will be Grandparents & Special Persons Day Mass in the morning and our annual auction that evening. Please mark your calendars so you can attend these important events.
We will be having a lockdown drill on Tuesday, January 17, at 2:30. Please be mindful that you will not be able to enter the building while the drill is in progress, and it should last about ten minutes. We will send out an Iris Alert informing you of the drill and when it is completed. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in helping us keep your children safe.
I hope your new year has begun with many blessings as well as a few challenges which help us keep our eyes focused on Jesus and his marvelous providence for our lives.
In Christ’s Peace,
Week of January 9th – 13th
This week the toddlers will be gluing three different sized circles together, to create a snowman.
This week we will be learning about winter wonder by making snowy art projects and reading stories about winter.
This week we will continue discussing our winter season theme. We will continue learning about the weather and winter activities but our focus will be on the ways people and animals stay warm in the cold and snow.
This week the Hawks will learn the letter ‘Ii’. We will brainstorm words that begin with ‘i’, use our imagination in our castle and make ice cream sundaes!
Our theme this week will be ‘Winter Wonderland’. We will discuss winter and what we can do outside in the snow. We will be working on the letter ‘Ee’.
This week the tigers will be working on the letter ‘Zz’. We will be doing crafts related to the letter ‘Zz’ and working on counting to 45.

Watch for your Volunteer Hour Summary to be coming home on Monday, January 16. It’s crazy to think, but we are already almost half way through the school year! There are still many opportunities left this year to complete the required 20 hours per family. If you are concerned about completing your hours, the Volunteer Hour Summary and Category Description sheet sent out at the beginning of the year is a great resource. You can find a copy of this on the school website under the Volunteer Coordinator tab. Please feel free to email me at email@example.com with any questions you may have.
The auction is less than one month away! Aside from this being our largest fundraiser of the year, it is also a very fun community building event. Below is a list of all the volunteer opportunities and dates that we will need help. Please email Aleisha Webb at firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested in helping.

The Parish Thank You Mass is the kick-off to Catholic Schools Week and will be held on Sunday, January 29th. This is a great way for our school community to thank the amazing parishioners of our church for all they do for us. We will be hosting a reception in O’Malley Hall in honor of the parishioners after both the 8:30 AM Mass and the 11:00 AM Mass. Below is a list of volunteers needed to help with the reception:

Box Tops and Labels for Education:
Please remember to include your family name and grade when turning in either sheets or baggies of Box Tops or Labels for Education. When recording them for volunteer hours, 50= 1 volunteer hour. You are responsible for recording your own hours on the Volunteer Hour Summary. We do not record hours for your family.
Please pray for the homeless in our community. May they find comfort and services they need during difficult times.
For all of our school families and loved ones, that God will bless our lives abundantly with peace, joy, and healing, and fill us with His Holy Spirit.
