October 10, 2016 Dear Parents and Second Graders, I hope you are enjoying the wonder of the changing seasons. Homework this week consists of continuing the reading at home and recording the time on the reading log. Spelling words need to be written three times each. Also use all spelling words in sentences, a story, or poem. There will be a spelling test on Thursday. Math pages are also included and should be returned by Thursday. We will not have school this Friday due to an in-service. It has been wonderful seeing all the effort the children have been showing in their work. In math we are working on place value, fact families, and math story problems. In language arts we are working on comprehension, vocabulary and sequencing. Our spelling focus this week is short e sounds. In religion we started a poster on the seven sacraments. We are learning about the meaning of each sacrament and the symbols associated with them. We are also learning about the Fruits of the Holy Spirit. In reading we are continuing our Book Club. The students are reading to me individually, with partners, and small groups. We read Alexander and the Terrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. The students wrote their own story on “My Wonderful, Super Colossal, Terrific and Awesome Day!”. Picture Day is this Wednesday. Your child may wear nice clothes for the picture or they can have the picture taken in uniform clothes. Please return the enclosed form and the money to the school by Wednesday. This Tuesday, October 11th we will have a safety drill at 9:30. The entire school will walk to Fourth Memorial Church. We will return at 10:30. We will also take an all school photo to celebrate our 100th anniversary after we get back. Have a great week! Thank you for your support in working together to make this a special year for all of us. God Bless, Mrs. Diane Weber
